Yoga and Ayurveda in Boossa

These retreats take place in Boossa, a small village in South Sri Lanka. Accommodation is in a charming seaside mansion, originally the family home of a wealthy businessman. Contact the centre for dates and prices.

Climate
The sea side location of Boossa and the climate of Sri Lanka, which is refreshed by cool and near constant breezes, mean it is never too hot, never too cold, never too wet and never too dry - the four fold conditions required for healthy living according to the ancient discipline of long life, Ayuveda. The weather is usually dry during the winter. However it can sometimes feel a little cool at night. Temperatures usually vary between the low 70's to mid 80's, so summer clothing is adequate throughout the year.

Accommodation

Accommodation for theses retreats is in a large colonial mansion in the seaside village of Boosa, between Hikkaduwa and Galle, in South Sri Lanka. There are seven large, comfortable twin or double bedrooms, most of them with sea view. Rooms are furnished in a traditional colonial style and most of them offer en suite facilities.

Food
The food is simple but delicious local vegetarian cooking. The house is set on two acres of ground, and breakfast in Boossa often includes organic fresh fruit from the garden. If you have any special dietary requirements, let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate them.

Location

Boossa is a small village between the seaside resort of Hikkaduwa and the port of Galle, about 100 km South of Colombo. Boosa has beautiful, quiet beaches as well as some lovely inland walks. Hikkaduwa (8 km to the North) is one of the best place in Sri Lanka for snorkelling, diving (there's a number of diving centres) and for surfing (boards can be rented locally), and has a number of shops selling clothes, masks, gems, batiks, etc.
Galle ( 8 km to the South) is Sri Lanka fourth largest city. It is a pretty town with a very well preserved 17th century Dutch fort and other interesting pieces of architecture.
There are very good bus and rail service from Boossa to Hikkaduwa, Galle and Colombo.

Getting to Sri Lanka

There are a number of airlines and charter companies offering flights to Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan operate an excellent daily service between London and Colombo. Contact UK: 0208.7591818, sales@srilankanairlines.co.uk

Getting to Boosa from Colombo airport

For most courses, transportation is provided between the airport in Colombo and the centre. Please let us know your date and time of arrival and your flight number by email or fax at least one week in advance, so we can organise to pick you up.
If you are making your own way to Boossa, this is how to proceed:
Take the airport-city public transport bus which cost about one dollar. It comes to main terminal in Pettah in the city. From there, take the Colombo/Galle Intercity air conditionned bus to Boossa (make sure you get aircon, or you'll be baked by the time you arrive). Cost around a dollar.
You must tell the driver to stop at Wellaboda junction, Boossa. It is just past the 108th k.m. post along the main road. The house is visible from the bus stop, have a good look at the picture on the site to make sure you will recognise it.
A taxi from the airport to Boossa cost about US $ 50.

Health

A number of vaccinations, as well as malaria medication, are recommended. Consult with your doctor at least two weeks before departure.

Clothing

Because of the temperate climate, simple and light clothing is all you will need. There are a number of shops nearby selling very cheap beachware, so it is better to take too little rather than too much. Don't  forget swimming gear and sandals.

What to Take

Sun glasses, sun-block and insect repellent are recommended. A yoga mat is essential for the yoga session. A torch with spare batteries, snorkelling equipment and cameras might also be a good idea.

Visas

All tourist visitors to Sri Lanka receive a 30 day visa on arrival at the airport.

Departure Tax

Please remember to have 500 rupees in cash with you when you leave Sri Lanka as a departure tax is charged at the airport.

Insurance

It is strongly recommended that you take out comprehensive travel insurance when you book your holiday.
